The Natural Pigments Historical Paint-Making Kit is intended for artists who want to expand their painting horizons, but have little or no experience making their own paints. The kit comes wih all the materials that you need to get started, including instructions, glass muller, grinding surface and 16 pigments in dry powder form to start making your own paint in any medium you choose—whether it be oils, watercolors, egg tempera, casein tempera, distemper or fresco.
The kit is an excellent introduction to paint making, which can open the door to a new range of possibilities in different mediums, pigments and paint recipes. The kit includes Lapis lazuli (Lazurite), Nicosia Terre Verde, Verona Green Earth, Antica Green, Lemon Ocher, Italian Yellow Earth, Pozzuoli Red, Venetian Red, Italian Raw Sienna, Italian Burnt Siena, Italian Raw Umber, Italian Raw Umber Green, Italian Burnt Umber, Cyprus Raw Umber Dark, German Vine Black, Chalk—all packaged in individual 4 ounce plastic jars. These pigments represent the basic set of hues used in historical painting before the nineteenth century. The kit includes all the popular palette colors: blue, green, yellow, red, brown, black and white.
