About Rublev Colours Complete Flesh Tint Watercolor Palette
The Rublev Colours Complete Flesh Tint Watercolor Palette includes all the colors you need to do a complete range of flesh tones in watercolor. These colors can be blended and used interchangeably with other watercolors.

Rublev Colours Watercolors are based on single, natural mineral and historical pigments that give you the authentic colors of past watercolors masters. Rublev Colours features such genuine watercolors as natural Ultramarine (Lapis Lazuli), Azurite, Malachite, among many others. These single pigment paints available in moist (tubes) and semi-moist (pans) watercolors are made with the same pigments used by masters of past centuries. While the trend today in commercial watercolors is to suppress pigment textures in favor of homogeneous, flat color, the earth and mineral pigments used in Rublev Colours Watercolors feature larger particles that produce granulation effects without the use of surfactants, such as ox gall. The paint is handcrafted and packed in 20 ml tubes—giving you 33% more color than typical 15 ml tubes.

The Complete Flesh Tint Watercolor Palette includes six colors--one full-sized tube each of the primary triad of Lazurite (Lapis Lazuli), Italian Yellow Earth and Indian Red; the complementary dyad of Nicosia Green Earth and Ercolano Red; and the flesh underpainting color of Cyprus Burnt Umber.

The Complete Flesh Tint Watercolor Palette includes one 20 ml tube each of:
, 20 ml Tube
Lazurite (Lapis Lazuli) is a transparent genuine ultramarine that is naturally granulating and gives the most subtle sky blue tints. When combined with Italian yellow earth and Indian red, it can be used to make a wide range of flesh tones, and with these pigments makes up a triadic primary.

, 20 ml Tube
Italian Yellow Earth is a transparent golden yellow with good tinting strength that makes golden half tints. Although not a powerful tint, it possesses a slight degree of opacity and a reserved quality that is frequently used in forming the subdued greens of the middle or extreme distance in landscapes. Yellow ocher may be considered in some degree broken—that is to say, a mixed color, contributing a slightly reddish character; this produces a neutral quality, causing it to be often used in combination with another mixed color, namely, vermilion, to make a warm neutral orange for the first or harmonizing tint, intended to give a general idea of warmth, without any positive color.

, 20 ml Tube
Indian Redis a purple russet hue of good body. In mixtures with the deeper blues Indian red makes a great variety of rich purple tints, much used in shadow flesh tones, stormy skies, or on mountains when under the shadow of dark clouds.

, 20 ml Tube
Nicosia Green Earth is a transparent deep green with blue undertones. This green earth pigment is from deposits in Cyprus. In mixtures with Ercolano red, it can be used to make a wide range of flesh tones and with it forms a complementary dyad.

,20 ml Tube
Ercolano Red is an semi-transparent red with good tinting strength. Our red earth is a single pigment color from ochre deposits in Italy. Red ochres are broken or indefinite colors, that is a mixture of colors. This pigment contributes a russet orange color, and is very useful when combined with cobalt or ultramarine in forming warm grays for the shadows of flesh and of clouds.

, 20 ml Tube
Cyprus Burnt Umber is an semi-transparent brown with good tinting strength. Our brown umber is a single pigment color from umber deposits in Italy. This is a fine deep color used in the warm rich browns of the underpainting of dark flesh tones and the foreground in landscapes. When mixed with indigo or ultramarine, it forms a deep neutral green, very effective in representing the shadows of trees in water.

Note: Colors swatches show color in mass tone, straight from the tube, on the left, and brushed out to the right. All pictures of color swatches in this web site are only approximations of the actual color of the paint. We have taken care to match the color in these pictures to the actual color. However, because of the wide variance in color monitors the results you get may vary.
