Patent gold leaf, also referred to as transfer gold leaf, is gold leaf mounted on a special tissue paper by a pressure process. A book of patent gold leaf is assembled by placing each unit of gold leaf and paper between sheets of thin rouged paper. The gilder can then remove one leaf at a time with fingers without disturbing the remaining leaves.
Loose gold leaf, also referred to as surface gold leaf, is gold leaf assembled in books by placing each leaf of gold between sheets of thin rouged paper. The gilder can then remove one leaf at a time with usually with a gilder’s tip or tong without disturbing the remaining leaves.
Our gold leaf is made in the standard European size of 80 x 80 mm (3.15 x 3.15 inches) and is available in units called "books," each book containing 25 leaves and packs or boxes of 20 books (500 pieces total).
