Natural Pigments Sun-Bleached Walnut Oil is made by exposing raw, cold-pressed walnut oil to sunlight in shallow enamel trays covered with clear glass but exposed to the atomosphere for a period of less than one month. No driers or other additives are used in the making of this oil. The exposure to sunlight lightens it and only slightly thickens it. This walnut oil is naturally bleached to almost water white, so it can be used with palest colors and whites. This oil can be used as a medium or added to homemade mediums.
Use turpentine or mineral spirits as a solvent or diluent for oil painting mediums made with walnut oil. Our walnut oil is a drying oil derived from California walnuts
As early as the fifth century walnut oil was recommended by Aetius for varnishing wax pictures and gilt surfaces. It is recommended for all light pigments in the treatises on painting by Leonardo da Vinci, Vasari, Borghini, Lornazzo, Armenini, Bisagno, Volpato, and others.

Warning: Rags or paper towels contaminated with vegetable drying oils, particularly those containing iron oxide pigments are susceptible to spontaneous combustion. To prevent unexpected fires, used rags or paper towels contaminated with oil-based materials should be collected in a closeable, air-tight container. Store water-dampened rags or paper towels in a metal container with an air-tight top. Alternately, washing contaminated rags will remove contaminating materials and eliminate risk
