Rublev Colours Antica Green Earth Aqueous Dispersion delivers the same pigment used in our dry powder, oil paint, and watercolor, pre-dispersed in water and ready to mix with any water-based painting medium. Shake well before use; some settling is normal in a dispersion with no added fillers. The dispersion is formulated to resist freezing and microbial spoilage in storage, using the stabilization approach appropriate to natural mineral pigments — different from the methods we use for modern synthetic pigments in the same dispersion range.
This dispersion contains Antica Green Earth pigment. Independent Raman microspectroscopy analysis has identified copper phthalocyanine green (PG7) as a minor colorant in this pigment in addition to its mineral earth and yellow ochre components. Full analytical findings, composition detail, and what they mean for painters are on the .
Use this dispersion to tint egg tempera, casein paint, milk paint, fresco plaster, distemper, glue tempera, gesso, and toned grounds. Add the binder of your choice dropwise to the dispersion and stir gently — avoid vigorous stirring, which can introduce air bubbles. Why a dispersion instead of dry pigment? A pre-dispersed pigment eliminates the dust hazard of handling dry powder, removes the need for grinding or wetting-out, and gives consistent color strength from bottle to bottle. The tradeoff is cost per weight of pigment — dispersions are more concentrated and more expensive per gram than dry powder, but the convenience and safety benefit is substantial for painters working regularly in water-based media.
