Elevate Your Oil Painting Experience with Wilson's Medium
Take your oil painting to the next level with Wilson's Medium, a clear, gel-like oil based on the 18th-century oil painting medium used by renowned artists like Richard Wilson and Joshua Reynolds. This high-quality art supply from Rublev Colours is designed to improve your oil painting experience, offering a range of benefits that will make your artistic journey more enjoyable and rewarding.
The Original Formula, Improved
We've taken the original formula and improved upon it by using the palest bodied linseed oil, pure distilled gum spirits of turpentine, and rheological castor wax instead of beeswax. This ensures that our Wilson's Medium is of the highest quality, with a clear, transparent, and largely colorless appearance. It's also practically odorless and has the same toxicity as linseed oil or other vegetable oils.
Suggested Uses for Wilson's Medium
Wilson's Medium is a versatile art supply that can be used in various ways to enhance your oil painting experience. Mix it directly with oil paints to give them a buttery consistency that holds brushstrokes yet dries to a satin finish. Use it to make your own oil paints by adding it to pigment and oil. You can even use it as a painting couch by wiping a thin coat onto the surface of dried paint just before painting a fresh layer.
The Benefits of Castor Wax
One of the key ingredients in Wilson's Medium is castor wax, which is obtained by the controlled hydrogenation of natural castor oil. Castor wax is extremely hard and can be used in much smaller amounts than beeswax to provide the same properties. It's also non-yellowing and non-bleaching, making it an ideal choice for artists who want to achieve a high-gloss finish.
