Product Overview

The Smooth-Cast 57D is a semi-rigid urethane plastic that offers a gradual cure profile, making it suitable for machine or hand rotational casting. This versatile resin can also be used as a casting resin for making solid, semi-rigid castings that are tough and durable. With a mix ratio of 1A:1B by volume, this resin has a working time of 3 minutes, demold time of 30 minutes, and full cure properties are attained after 24 hours.

Features and Benefits

The Smooth-Cast 57D has a number of features that make it an ideal choice for various applications. The resin is semi-rigid and highly impact resistant, making it perfect for creating castings that need to withstand stress and strain. Additionally, the resin is easy to color with SO-Strong, UVO or Ignite colorants, and can be painted with acrylic paints or UreCoat flexible coating for added durability.

Applications

The Smooth-Cast 57D is suitable for a wide range of applications, including rotational casting, prototype modeling, and production casting. The resin's semi-rigid properties make it ideal for creating parts that need to be tough and durable, yet still flexible enough to withstand stress and strain.

Preparation and Mixing

To ensure proper mixing and curing of the Smooth-Cast 57D, it's essential to follow the instructions carefully. The material should be stored and used in a warm environment, and all mixing tools and containers should be clean and made of metal, glass or plastic. A release agent is necessary to facilitate demolding, and it's recommended to apply a liberal coat of release agent to all surfaces that will contact the plastic.

Performance and Safety

The Smooth-Cast 57D has a number of performance benefits, including its semi-rigid properties, impact resistance, and ability to withstand moisture and mild heat. However, it's essential to follow proper safety precautions when working with this resin, including wearing safety glasses, long sleeves, and rubber gloves, and working in a well-ventilated area.
